KPV (Anti-Inflammatory Peptide)
Alpha-MSH Fragment • 3 Amino Acids
KPV is a naturally occurring tripeptide (Lys-Pro-Val, MW 342.43 g/mol) derived from the C-terminal fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Despite being only three amino acids in length, KPV retains the potent anti-inflammatory signaling activity of the parent hormone while lacking melanotropic effects (no melanocortin receptor activation or pigmentation changes). Its primary mechanism involves direct inhibition of NF-kB nuclear translocation, the master transcription factor regulating pro-inflammatory cytokine expression. KPV has demonstrated particular research interest in mucosal immunology and gastrointestinal inflammation models.
Key Research Findings:
- In vitro studies demonstrated dose-dependent inhibition of NF-kB nuclear translocation and downstream suppression of IL-1beta, TNF-alpha, and IL-6 production in activated macrophages
- Rodent colitis models showed 50-70% reduction in key inflammatory markers (MPO activity, cytokine levels) compared to untreated controls
- Preclinical studies demonstrated enhanced intestinal epithelial barrier integrity and accelerated mucosal healing in chemically induced colitis models
- In vitro research confirmed that KPV exerts anti-inflammatory effects independent of melanocortin MC1R/MC3R/MC4R receptor binding
